Practice Areas

Business and nonprofit Law

Every small business and nonprofit owner starts with a passion to build something special.  We are there to help make sure your company gets off the ground with the best possible chance of success.  Our attorneys will work with you on everything from corporate formation to licenses, leases and contracts.

And as your business grows, we stand ready to assist with matters that growing companies face such as partnerships, financing, employment issues, and business sales or acquisitions.

We have significant experience with business management, public relations, marketing, and strategic planning – not just law. In other words, we know what you are likely going to face, and we are here to help.

INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY

Ideas can be the most important things to protect in today’s competitive creative market, especially since so many aspects of a company's product and intellectual property end up online.

At Lang Coakley, we will work closely with you to identify your key intellectual property and help you protect it.  This often involves the preparation and filing of trademark and copyright applications, as well as any necessary follow-up with the trademark and copyright offices to ensure your application moves forward.

We also work with our clients to prepare licensing agreements, nondisclosure agreements, and confidentiality agreements.  And should your intellectual property be used improperly by others, we help protect your rights, often through negotiation and, if necessary, litigation.

Wills, Trusts & Estates

"Estate planning" is a weighted term that frequently intimidates people.  At Lang Coakley we seek to take the difficulty out of the equation.  We understand how important it is for people at all stages of life to have a properly executed plan.

For young parents, estate planning often means putting in place a framework in case the unthinkable happens. Most importantly, it includes appointing a guardian to care for minor children, and setting up a trust to protect life insurance proceeds and other important assets.

For other clients, estate planning might be focused on protecting a special asset (such as a vacation home), preserving assets for loved ones, ensuring the proper distribution of your estate, or creating a legacy for family members and loved ones.

We work with you to create a customized estate plan based upon your specific needs. We will help you explore various options that could make sense for you and your family.

Probate Administration

Dealing with the death of a loved one is one of life's most difficult challenges.

This stressful time is often exacerbated when surviving family and friends are left to deal with probate matters such as proving a will, paying taxes, administering an estate, or distributing assets. Unfortunately, it is not uncommon for disputes to arise, even among close family members.

Lang Coakley specializes in probate administration to help ease the stress during this time.  We strive to make the process easier and less stressful. We work with personal representatives to help administer estates quickly and cost effectively and we work with trustees to oversee the management of trusts and the proper distribution of trust assets.  Should probate disputes arise, our years of litigation experience put you on solid ground when trying to resolve such delicate disputes.
